Salzburg Festival 2012
July 26, 2012
"Powerful Hallelujah" was the headline of the Salzburger Nachrichten reviewing the performances
of Messiah in Mozart’s orchestration conducted by Christopher at the beginning of this year’s Salzburg Festival last weekend.
“With
Hogwood….already something of a legend…and the Mozarteum Orchestra
unafraid of engaging with a properly historical technique, one knew this
project was on a safe footing. This became apparent in the splendid
overall sonority in which the stalwart wind section particularly shone.
The young singers of the Dresden Kammerchor showed great commitment,
with suitable restrain in the darker passages, confidence in the fugues,
clarity in moments of celebration and jubilation in Hallelujah”.
Salzburger Nachrichten, 23 July 2012
The four soloists were Malin Hartelius soprano, Vesselina Kasarova mezzo-soprano, Norbert Ernst tenor,
Michael Volle bass, and Sunday’s performance was granted that rarity at a Salzburg Matinee, a standing ovation.
